Dear Friends,
For many people, the town of Ambrolauri in the Racha region, conjures stunning images of the Tkhmori waterfall or the forests surrounding Shaori Lake. But for the teenagers who grow up there, the rural town with a population of only 2,000 has limited potential and they crave a bigger world. Between isolation and poverty, entering a bigger world and dreaming about a wider future is only the most distant possibility.
American Friends of Georgia has found a way to connect these deserving young people to the world with its friend Chart.ge. We supply select students with laptops and a year’s access to the internet. Suddenly, they are beaming and planning a future!
Mariam (15)
Mariam plans to enroll in Akaki Tsereteli University and study history and the Georgian language. “For school, I often have tasks that require a connection to the Internet,” she explains. “This is why I sometimes complete assignments in the school’s computer lab and occasionally use a friend’s computer. Having my own computer will significantly ease the process of completing study assignments for me.”
In 2023 AFG helped to supply laptops to 20 students in remote villages, and with your help we will connect many more to the internet and a brighter future.
Luka (17)
Luka has strong ambitions to become a computer programmer, and he has selected the University of Business and Technology for his studies. “I was captivated by technology since childhood, and I plan to align my future career with computer science as a software developer,” he says. “Until now, I didn’t have my own laptop at home, but now I am more motivated than ever to deepen my knowledge.”
Family incomes in this remote area are always a struggle. School systems do their best with spartan budgets. But with your help, AFG transforms lives across the country. Whether it’s an isolated elderly woman in a Tbilisi hospice or a teenager in the snowy western regions, the tailored approach of AFG touches them directly.
With your support we can reach out to more people of all ages.
Thank you for your generosity! დიდი მადლობა
