Dear Friends,
This summer Sophia, a student at Boston University, flew back to Tbilisi to be our intern and see her grandparents. This is one of her reflections after meeting the people of our projects.
Sophia with one of her young Dzegvi friends
The children of Dzegvi Shelter are some of the most inspiring people I have met. We shared paintings, stories, jokes and talked about our dreams. Nana, dreams of being an actress, she told me she loves the camera, and can’t wait to audition for movies. Ia told me she wanted to be a firefighter and help others. Ioane told me he couldn’t wait to go to New York, his eyes lit up with wonder when he found out I lived there.
They all asked me why I would take the time to come to Dzegvi. Each and every one of them was filled with passion, ambition, and dreams. I wanted so badly to stay and do all that I could to get Nana an audition, to get Ia a chance to sit on a fire truck, to get Io to New York. But I couldn't.
Dzegvi isn’t New York, but that space is filled with hope. With possibilities.
Dzegvi Shelter is home to 80 adults and children. AFG has been supporting Dzegvi's programs for many years. Clockwise from top left: Dzegvi's newest building, completed with substantial support from AFG, children take dance classes with an expert of traditional Georgian dances, art rehabilitation is offered to children also through AFG support, International Children's Day, an annual tradition of creative fun and feasting at Dzegvi.
Sophia did return to her studies in the States but AFG remains with the children to do more than feed & educate them. We help them dream about the future. Despite an intense year of politics in Tbilisi, American Friends of Georgia is still delivering projects that have fed people’s immediate needs and given them some hope.
Send your tax free contribution now, to keep us strong in our support of Georgian families.
With gratitude and plans for the future,
დიდი მადლობა Thank you
Bill
With your help we can work to make dreams come true.
